Smart insulin systems may shield hearts in type 1 diabetes
NCT ID NCT07241702
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether hybrid closed-loop systems (automated insulin pumps) can improve heart and blood vessel health in adults with type 1 diabetes. Researchers will compare these systems to standard insulin injections or added SGLT2 inhibitor drugs. They will measure artery stiffness, heart function, and blood vessel health over 12 months in 100 participants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Hybrid closed-loop system (automated insulin delivery device)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that automated insulin systems protect the heart and blood vessels better than standard insulin injections in type 1 diabetes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, non-randomized observational study, so results may not prove cause and effect. The devices are already available, so the main question is whether they offer extra heart benefits.
