Healthy volunteers help unravel metabolism of experimental compound

NCT ID NCT03159390

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looked at how healthy adults process a compound called ornithine phenylacetate (OP). Twenty volunteers aged 40-70 received special tracers and gave blood, urine, and muscle samples. The goal was to understand how OP's nitrogen atoms are used to make other important molecules like glutamate and glutamine. This information may help design future treatments for liver disease.
