Monthly shot tested to help hospital patients stay in opioid treatment

NCT ID NCT04345718

Summary

This study tested whether a single monthly injection of buprenorphine (XR-BUP) helps hospitalized patients with opioid addiction stay in treatment better than standard care after they go home. About 344 adults with moderate to severe opioid use disorder were randomly assigned to receive either the injection or standard treatment options like daily medications. Researchers checked if participants were still receiving legitimate addiction treatment one month after leaving the hospital, with follow-ups at three and six months.
