Honey heals: sweet solution may beat standard ointment for hearing implant skin care

NCT ID NCT03929224

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether applying medical-grade honey after bone-anchored hearing aid surgery could prevent skin breakdown better than the usual bacitracin ointment. Seventeen adults were randomly assigned to receive either honey or bacitracin for two weeks after surgery. Researchers then compared skin reactions and the need for oral antibiotics over six months.
