First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This small study tested whether it is safe for mothers to hold their infants while the babies receive therapeutic hypothermia (cooling) for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, a type of brain injury. Ten stable infants were enrolled, and researchers tracked any problems like accidental warming or tube dislodgement. Parents and nurses also shared their feelings about bonding and safety.
