Smart alerts aim to boost HIV prevention in community clinics

NCT ID NCT05245201

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether an electronic health record tool can help doctors spot patients at higher risk for HIV and prescribe them pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a daily pill that prevents HIV. Researchers will roll out the tool in 2-3 community health centers and compare PrEP prescription rates to 2 clinics providing usual care. The goal is to lay the groundwork for a larger trial that could reduce new HIV infections nationwide.
