Sound waves zap liver tumours in new non-invasive trial

NCT ID NCT06579833

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests a new non-invasive treatment called histotripsy for liver tumours. It uses high-intensity ultrasound waves to create tiny bubbles inside the tumour that burst and destroy the cancer cells, while sparing healthy tissue. The trial will enroll 60 patients with primary or secondary liver tumours, and will monitor safety and changes in tumour size. Patients stay in the hospital for about 3 days and receive the treatment under general anaesthesia.
