New nerve block may offer safer hip surgery anesthesia for elderly
NCT ID NCT07427082
First seen Feb 25, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tested a new type of nerve block (lumbar erector spinae plane block) against standard spinal anesthesia for hip and upper thigh surgery in 66 adults. The goal was to see if the nerve block could provide good pain control during and after surgery while reducing the need for strong painkillers and avoiding drops in blood pressure. Results may help doctors choose a safer anesthesia option, especially for older patients.
