New anesthesia technique may reduce opioid use in hip surgery

NCT ID NCT07427082

First seen Feb 25, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tested whether a nerve block (lumbar ESP block) could be a good alternative to spinal anesthesia for hip and upper thigh surgery. 66 adults were randomly assigned to receive one of the two methods. Researchers measured how long pain relief lasted after surgery and whether extra opioids were needed during the operation. The goal was to see if the nerve block provides safe and effective anesthesia with fewer side effects.
