Sound waves vs. freezing: which works better for skin cancer?

NCT ID NCT07384078

First seen Feb 03, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests if high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) works as well as standard cryotherapy (freezing) for treating low-risk basal cell carcinomas and Bowen's disease. About 294 adults with small skin cancers on their trunk or limbs will receive one treatment and be checked for up to 5 years. The goal is to see if HIFU is a good alternative with fewer side effects.
