New study tests gentler breathing support for COPD patients after ICU

NCT ID NCT07381686

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study compares two breathing treatments—high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and noninvasive ventilation (NIV)—for people with COPD who have just had a breathing tube removed. The goal is to see which method better prevents the need for another breathing tube within 72 hours. About 150 adults with mild carbon dioxide buildup will take part. The results could help doctors choose a more comfortable and effective support option.
