Surgical tactic may slash hiatal hernia recurrence

NCT ID NCT07197619

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study looks at whether removing the hernia sac during surgery for a paraesophageal hernia (a type of hiatal hernia) lowers tension on the repair. High tension is linked to hernias coming back. About 42 adults having hernia repair will have their sac tension measured before and after removal. The goal is to find a simple step that might reduce the high recurrence rate.
