Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether a modified Chinese herbal formula, Shenling Baizhu San, can reduce swelling in the retina (macular edema) and improve vision. Adults diagnosed with macular edema take either the herbal granules or a placebo twice daily for 12 weeks. The study measures changes in retinal thickness and visual clarity to see if the formula offers a safe, effective treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
a modified Chinese herbal formula called Shenling Baizhu San
What this could lead to
If effective, this herbal formula could offer a new treatment option for macular edema, a condition with no cure.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 10 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Herbal formulas can also have side effects or interact with other medications.
