New SPECT scans could spot aggressive breast cancer without biopsy
NCT ID NCT05376644
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two new radioactive imaging agents, 99mTc-ADAPT6 and 99mTc-DARPinG3, to see how well they can detect HER2-positive breast cancer using SPECT scans. Fifteen women with HER2-positive breast cancer will receive injections of each agent a few days apart, followed by imaging. The goal is to compare the imaging results with standard biopsy tests to determine if these agents can accurately identify HER2 status non-invasively before chemotherapy or targeted therapy begins.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- 99mTc-ADAPT6 and 99mTc-DARPinG3
- What this could lead to
- If successful, these imaging agents could provide a non-invasive way to detect HER2-positive breast cancer, potentially guiding treatment decisions without needing a biopsy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 15 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The imaging agents are experimental and their accuracy compared to standard methods is not yet proven.
