First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study looked at how many organ transplant recipients have been exposed to the hepatitis E virus. Researchers tested blood from 447 adults who had a liver, kidney, or small bowel transplant, or were waiting for one. The goal was to find out if hepatitis E is a hidden problem in U.S. transplant patients, since it can become a long-term infection in people with weakened immune systems.
