Heparin bladder rinses may cut down repeat UTIs

NCT ID NCT02246270

First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether putting heparin (a blood thinner) directly into the bladder can lower the number of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women who get them often. 34 women with a history of repeat UTIs received either heparin or a placebo solution through a catheter. The main goal was to see if the infection rate dropped over 6 months. The approach aims to protect the bladder lining from bacteria, not to cure the condition permanently.
