Drug trial aims to make risky heart surgery safer for patients with low platelets

NCT ID NCT07278661

Summary

This study is testing if a drug called romiplostim can safely increase platelet counts in patients with low platelets before they undergo major heart surgery. The goal is to reduce the risk of dangerous bleeding and the need for blood transfusions during and after the operation. About 136 adult patients scheduled for heart surgery with low platelet counts will receive either the drug or a placebo before their procedure.
