Common pain drug may weaken heart procedure medication

NCT ID NCT03476369

Summary

This study investigated whether fentanyl, a common pain medication used during heart stent procedures, reduces the effectiveness of ticagrelor, a blood-thinning drug. Researchers tested 45 patients undergoing stent placement to see if crushing the ticagrelor pill before swallowing made it work better when given with fentanyl. The goal was to understand this drug interaction to help doctors optimize medication dosing during these critical heart procedures.
