Crushed vs. whole pills: heart procedure drug combo under scrutiny
NCT ID NCT03476369
Summary
This study investigated whether crushing a common blood thinner pill (ticagrelor) before giving it to patients during a heart stent procedure helps it work better when combined with a common pain/sedation medication (fentanyl). Researchers enrolled 45 patients getting a stent to compare how well the crushed versus whole pill prevented blood clots. The trial was terminated early, and results focus on short-term clot prevention and bleeding risks during and after the hospital stay.
