Heart scan could be key to getting patients off breathing machines sooner

NCT ID NCT07075926

Summary

This study aims to see if a bedside heart ultrasound can help doctors predict which intensive care unit (ICU) patients can successfully stop using a ventilator. Researchers will scan the hearts of 50 adults who are ready to try breathing on their own. They will check if specific heart measurements can forecast whether a patient will remain off the ventilator for 24 hours after it is removed.
