New MRI scan could spot hidden heart problems without gadolinium

NCT ID NCT06731738

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tested a new MRI technique using a manganese-based contrast agent to measure how well heart cells take up manganese. It included 44 healthy volunteers and heart failure patients with preserved ejection fraction caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or cardiac amyloidosis. The goal was to see if this method can detect cell function problems separate from scarring, which could improve diagnosis and treatment monitoring.
