Potassium binder may unlock lifesaving heart drugs for seniors

Summary
This study tests whether a drug called sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (SZC) can safely lower potassium levels in elderly patients with heart failure and chronic kidney disease. By controlling potassium, doctors hope to give these patients higher, more effective doses of heart-protective medications (RAASi) that are often limited by high potassium. The trial involves 94 participants aged 70 and older and will compare those receiving SZC plus RAASi to those receiving RAASi alone over 3 months.
