Could your hearing aid silence the ringing? new study tests built-in tinnitus relief
NCT ID NCT07711249
First seen Jul 17, 2026 · Last updated Jul 17, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a special noise-generator feature built into Sonova hearing aids can make tinnitus less annoying for people with hearing loss. About 170 adults with chronic tinnitus (lasting at least 6 months) who already use these hearing aids will rate their annoyance before and after using the feature. The goal is to see if this sound therapy helps, especially for those with more severe hearing loss.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Sonova hearing aids with built-in tinnitus feature (noise generator)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could confirm that modern hearing aids with sound therapy effectively reduce tinnitus annoyance for more people, including those with severe hearing loss.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study without a control group, so improvements could be due to the hearing aid itself or natural changes over time. Results may not apply to all tinnitus patients.
