First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tests whether hearing aids can improve daily hearing for veterans who have normal hearing tests but still struggle to understand speech in noisy places. About 142 veterans will either get hearing aids or standard communication advice. The goal is to see if the devices reduce the real-world handicap of hearing difficulties.

hearing aids and communication counseling
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a new, simple option to help veterans who struggle to hear in noisy places despite normal hearing tests.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (142 people) and it's not yet known if hearing aids actually help more than standard advice. Results may not apply to all veterans.
