Can a stearic Acid-Rich diet improve blood vessel health?
NCT ID NCT07831603
First seen Sep 21, 2026 · Last updated Sep 21, 2026
Summary
Researchers are testing whether a diet high in stearic acid, a type of saturated fat found in cocoa butter, improves blood vessel function compared with a diet high in oleic acid, the main fat in olive and canola oils. The trial enrolls 40 overweight or obese adults aged 40 to 70 with no major chronic diseases. Participants follow controlled diets for 14 days and then eat high-fat test meals while researchers measure blood vessel dilation and take blood samples over several hours.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- stearic acid-rich diet
- What this could lead to
- If stearic acid helps blood vessels work better, it could inform dietary advice for overweight or obese middle-aged adults at risk of heart disease.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, short-term study of 40 people. The results may not apply to other groups, and diet studies often show modest or inconsistent effects.
