Summary

This completed study looked at small molecules in the guts of 6 healthy volunteers after they ate bananas, apples, cucumbers, and peanuts. Researchers analyzed stool samples to see how these foods changed gut bacteria and related molecules. The goal was to better understand the healthy gut, not to treat any disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
bananas, apples, cucumbers, peanuts
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help scientists understand how different foods affect gut bacteria and molecules in healthy people.
What could go wrong
This is a very small study with only 6 participants, so findings may not apply to everyone. It is exploratory and not designed to test a treatment.
