Midwife's touch: which technique prevents tears best?

NCT ID NCT07492940

First seen Mar 25, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looks at two ways midwives protect the area between the vagina and anus (perineum) during birth to reduce tears. About 737 women giving birth naturally will be randomly assigned to either a 'hands-on' (supporting the perineum) or 'hands-off' (waiting without touching) technique. The goal is to see which method leads to fewer injuries and better outcomes for both mother and baby.
