First seen Mar 25, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at two ways midwives protect the area between the vagina and anus (perineum) during birth: hands-on (actively supporting) and hands-off (waiting without touching). The goal is to see which method leads to fewer tears and better outcomes for both mother and baby. About 737 women giving birth naturally will take part.
