Stomach bug treatment may boost platelets in ITP patients

NCT ID NCT07150286

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looked at whether treating Helicobacter pylori (a common stomach infection) can improve platelet counts in people with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), a condition where the immune system destroys platelets, causing bleeding and bruising. Researchers tested 100 ITP patients in Baghdad for H. pylori and gave those who were positive a 14-day course of antibiotics. They measured platelet levels before and after treatment to see if eradicating the infection helped.
