First seen Dec 26, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This small pilot study tested whether adding gypenosides (a herbal supplement) to standard steroid treatment could help protect the nerve at the back of the eye in adults having their first episode of acute optic neuritis. Ten participants were enrolled, but the study was stopped early. The main goal was to measure nerve thickness in the affected eye after six months.
