Scientists hunt for super probiotics to heal your gut
NCT ID NCT07198984
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study aims to find and identify friendly bacteria from human stool samples that can increase butyrate, a key compound for gut health. Researchers will collect samples from 25 healthy adults aged 20 to 80 and use lab techniques to isolate bacterial strains that produce or boost butyrate. The goal is to develop new probiotic products that support digestion, immunity, and overall well-being.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- probiotics (butyrate-producing bacteria)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to new probiotic products that improve gut health and help prevent digestive, metabolic, or neurological disorders.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early, small study (25 people) focused on identifying bacteria, not testing a treatment. It may not lead to a usable product, and lab results may not translate to real-world benefits.
