Mind-Gut pills target stubborn heartburn when standard drugs fail

NCT ID NCT06945237

Summary

This study tested whether medications that affect both the brain and digestive system could help people with chronic acid reflux (GERD) who don't get enough relief from standard acid-reducing drugs. Researchers enrolled 164 adults with GERD to see if these 'gut-brain neuromodulators' could better control symptoms and improve quality of life. The approach recognizes that stress and mental health often influence digestive symptoms, offering a different treatment strategy when usual medications aren't fully effective.
