Gut check: bacteria may reveal who will respond to arthritis biologics

NCT ID NCT04899154

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether the types of bacteria in your gut can predict how well you will respond to biologic treatments for spondyloarthritis, a type of inflammatory arthritis. Researchers will compare the gut bacteria of 80 people starting biotherapy (anti-TNF or anti-IL17) and see if those who respond have a different bacterial makeup than those who do not. The goal is to help doctors choose the right treatment from the start, avoiding ineffective therapies and side effects.
