Root canal treatment may help blood vessels, new study suggests

NCT ID NCT07292363

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study examined whether chronic tooth-root infection (apical periodontitis) is linked to changes in blood vessel function. Researchers measured inflammation and blood vessel barrier markers in 45 healthy adults, some with and some without the infection, before root canal treatment and again 6 and 12 months after. The goal was to see if treating the infection could reduce these markers and potentially improve blood vessel health.
