First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study looks at whether children and teens with mild rheumatic heart disease (RHD) can stop taking daily penicillin without their heart condition getting worse. The trial will enroll 922 participants aged 5-20 who have been on penicillin for at least two years and whose heart scans show stable or normal results. Half will continue penicillin, and half will stop, with their heart health monitored for two years to see if stopping is safe.
