Steroid-Free hope for arthritis patients: new study tests safer withdrawal

NCT ID NCT02997605

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested two methods to help people with rheumatoid arthritis stop taking steroids (prednisone) safely. 102 adults with low disease activity or remission took part. One group slowly reduced their steroid dose, while the other switched to a different steroid (hydrocortisone) before stopping. The goal was to see which approach helped more people stop steroids completely after one year without causing adrenal problems.
