Could a diabetes drug fix kidney disease by fixing fat?

NCT ID NCT07309094

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a type of diabetes medication (GLP-1 receptor agonists) can help people with chronic kidney disease by improving how their fat tissue works. Researchers will measure changes in fat around the kidneys and heart, as well as kidney function, in 250 adults with early-to-moderate kidney disease who also have obesity or type 2 diabetes. The goal is to see if treating fat tissue problems can slow kidney damage and reduce heart risks.
