Knee surgery pain relief: simple block before operation may cut opioid use

NCT ID NCT06942702

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a nerve block given before knee replacement surgery can lower pain and the need for strong painkillers afterward. About 44 adults having a single knee replaced will be split into two groups: one gets the nerve block with a numbing medicine, the other gets no block. Both groups can receive morphine after surgery, and researchers will compare their pain scores and how much morphine they use.
