Knee surgery pain relief: can a simple block cut opioid use?

NCT ID NCT06942702

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a numbing injection around the knee (genicular block) given before total knee replacement surgery can lower pain and the need for strong painkillers. About 44 adults having a first-time knee replacement will take part. Half will get the block, half will not, and both groups can receive morphine after surgery. The goal is to see if the block makes recovery less painful.
