Scientists test 'Double-Edged' gene therapy to fight HIV and cancer at once

NCT ID NCT02337985

Summary

This early-stage study is testing a two-part treatment for people with AIDS-related lymphoma. First, patients receive standard chemotherapy to fight the cancer. Then, they receive an infusion of their own blood stem cells that have been genetically modified in a lab to resist HIV. The main goal is to see if this combined approach is safe and feasible, with the hope it could help the body better control both HIV and the cancer long-term.
