Blood marker may foretell heart pump surgery risks

Summary
This study is checking if levels of a substance called GDF-15 in the blood before surgery can help predict early complications and death in people with advanced heart failure who are getting a mechanical heart pump (LVAD). About 48 adults will be observed. The goal is to improve how doctors assess risk before this major surgery.
