Hormone shot aims to boost power of diabetes cell transplant
NCT ID NCT03746769
Summary
This study is testing whether adding injections of a gut hormone called gastrin can help a smaller number of transplanted insulin-making cells work better in people with hard-to-manage type 1 diabetes. Participants will receive a single transplant of donor islet cells along with two rounds of daily gastrin injections, while also taking lifelong anti-rejection medications. The goal is to see if this combination is safe and can help patients become insulin-independent with stable blood sugar.
