Ultrasound vs. tube: which is better at spotting a full stomach?
NCT ID NCT07292935
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study compares a simple stomach ultrasound to the standard method (a tube inserted through the mouth) for checking if a patient's stomach is empty before surgery. About 1,390 adults scheduled for a gastroscopy will get an ultrasound first, then the tube test. The goal is to see if the ultrasound can reliably tell if the stomach is empty, which could help prevent complications during anesthesia.
