Ultrasound vs. scope: which best spots a full stomach before surgery?

NCT ID NCT07292935

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study checks if a simple stomach ultrasound can accurately see if a patient's stomach is empty or full before a procedure. About 1,390 adults getting a routine or urgent stomach scope will also get an ultrasound first. The goal is to see if the ultrasound can replace the more invasive scope for checking stomach contents, which helps prevent complications during anesthesia.
