Simple drain may soothe shoulder pain after female surgery

NCT ID NCT07262749

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether placing a small drain to let out leftover gas after gynecologic laparoscopic surgery can reduce shoulder pain. Many women feel this pain because the gas used during surgery irritates the diaphragm. About 124 women having this surgery will be randomly assigned to get the drain or standard care, and their pain will be checked for 48 hours after the procedure.
