Drain that sucks out gas after surgery may ease shoulder pain

NCT ID NCT04974125

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested whether using a drain to actively remove gas from the belly after keyhole gynecologic surgery (laparoscopy) reduces shoulder and rib pain compared to manually pushing the gas out. About 200 women having surgery for benign or cancerous conditions took part. The goal was to see if the drain method leads to less pain right after surgery.
