First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding game-like features to a visual mapping app helps people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's or related dementias stay engaged in daily activities. Sixty participants and their caregivers used the app for six months, with half getting the gamified version and half the standard version. Researchers tracked engagement and quality of life to see if gamification makes a difference.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
MapHabit System with gamification (visual mapping software)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, fun way to help people with dementia stay engaged in daily activities and improve their quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The gamification may not boost engagement more than the standard system.
