New ultrasound technique could prevent second surgeries in Weight-Loss patients
NCT ID NCT07453186
First seen Mar 17, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looks at 130 adults scheduled for weight-loss (bariatric) surgery to see if using a small ultrasound probe inside the belly during surgery finds more gallstones than the standard ultrasound done on the outside. After weight-loss surgery, about 1 in 5 patients later need their gallbladder removed, which can be riskier. By finding gallstones earlier, doctors hope to give preventive medicine to those who need it and avoid future surgeries.
