Sound waves may open Brain's shield to attack deadly tumor

NCT ID NCT07562971

First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new way to treat a rare, aggressive brain tumor called diffuse midline glioma (DMG). The tumor sits deep in the brainstem, where a natural barrier often blocks chemotherapy from working. Researchers will use focused ultrasound to temporarily open that barrier, allowing more chemo to reach the tumor. The study includes 20 children and adults and aims to see if the procedure is safe and may help slow tumor growth.
