Gut bacteria transplants aim to save lives in sepsis lung failure

NCT ID NCT07342205

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether transplanting healthy gut bacteria (fecal microbiota transplantation) can help people with lung injury caused by sepsis. Sepsis triggers severe inflammation that often damages the lungs, and current treatments are limited. The trial will enroll 60 adults to see if this approach improves oxygen levels, reduces deaths, and shortens ICU stays.
